CHICAGO - Russell Wilson and the seventh-ranked Wisconsin express keeps trekking along.
Once a 7-7 gridlock, Wisconsin scored 42 straight points while the Badgers’ defense shutdown a Northern Illinois offense averaging 45.5 points per game, as the Badgers’ first road game was a successful 49-7 performance Saturday at Soldier Field.
The win gives Wisconsin (3-0) its 31-straight regular season non-conference victory and its 11th
For the third straight game, Wilson was the story. The senior quarterback became the ninth quarterback in school history to throw for over 300 yards, going 23-for-31 with 347 yards and three touchdowns. Wilson’s only mistake was a red-zone interception midway through the fourth quarter, his last throw of the day.
With most of the talk leading up to the game being centered around what knowledge Northern Illinois coach and former UW defensive coordinator Dave Doeren could bring to his team, the Wisconsin defense did all the talking. Averaging 485.5 yards per game, the Huskies were held to just 236 yards and never found rhythm after scoring a touchdown on their third offensive possession.
Montee Ball and James White each added 91 rushing yards and three combined scores for Wisconsin, which rushed for over 270 yards on the ground.

Nick Toon 12-yard pass from Russell Wilson (Kyle French kick)
Key Play:On Wisconsin's first pass play, Russell Wilson sold the playaction, rolled to his left and threw a strike on the move to Jared Abbrederis for 38 yards and a first down on the 17.

Jasmin Hopkins 3-yard run (Mathew Sims kick)
Key Play:After Chandler Harnish was stymied on his first two drives, the senior quarterback aired it out for Perez Ashford, who hauled in the underthrown 39-yard catch between Marcus Cromartie and Aaron Henry. That got NIU down to the five, and scored two plays later.

Jasmin Hopkins 3-yard run (French kick)
Key Play:Northern Illinois looked to surprise Wisconsin by attempting the onside kick. Thanks to Jacob Pedersen somehow emerging from the bottom of the pile with the football, even through NIU originally had the football before the dogpile, the Badgers avoided the embarrassment and got the ball on their 49.
10 plays, 97 yards, 5:05 TOP, 8:53 left
Montee Ball 1-yard run (French kick)
Key Play:At this point, Russell Wilson has eight incompletions in his Wisconsin career. That's impressive, and his throw that hit a wide-open Jacob Pedersen for 54 yards down the sideline, getting UW inside the 4-yard line, was equally as good.
11 plays, 77 yards, 4:54 TOP, 1:52 left
James White 1-yard run (French kick)
Key Play:With Northern Illinois blitzing and with a linebacker coming free, Wilson tucked the ball and knifed his way through the defense, twisting and turning his way to a 11-yard gain on third-and-7, giving UW a fresh set of downs at the NIU 30.
9 plays, 78 yards, 3:45 TOP, 11:15 left
Montee Ball 1-yard run (French kick)
Key Play:It's official: a healthy Toon is equaling a lethal connection for Wisconsin's offense. Toon and Wilson certainly have something special going, which was evident by their 19-yard completion midway through the drive. As soon as Wilson ended his drop, he threw the slant. Toon hadn't even made his break yet and turned to see the pass right on front of him, making a solid catch and moving the chains.
7 plays, 79 yards, 3:41 TOP, 6:23 left
Jacob Pedersen 9-yard pass from Russell Wilson (French kick)
Key Play: Although Ball has gotten most of the carries and recognition, James White is still showing he's got some moves. The sophomore found a gap and scampered 27 yards down to the NIU 27, setting up yet another score.
9 plays, 50 yards, 4:20 TOP, 3:34 left
Joe Brennan 6-yard run(French kick)
Key Play: Running the naked bootleg to perfection, Brennan sold the handoff to Jeff Lewis and was able to reach the ball over the goal line for the final nail in the coffin.
