Northern Illinois Lands Baxter

Northern Illinois Lands Baxter

In this report, Alan Baxter, a 6-1 240 lb. product of Buffalo Grove (IL), talks about his decision to verbally commit to Northern Illinois football coach Jerry Kill for next season. The future Huskie took time out from his Thanksgiving Holiday to talk with HuskiePride.com about his decision.

Alan Baxter is glad to be a Northern Illinois Huskie. "I thought that the MAC was a real good conference for me," Baxter said. "I really like the coaching staff. I went down there for a visit and went to their camp in June. I really liked the campus."

"I really liked them, they're a young team," Baxter shared. "They've got a good future under Coach Kill. I went to the Northern Illinois vs. Central Michigan game."

Baxter played on both sides of the ball for Buffalo Grove High School. His versatility is something that appealed to the NIU coaching staff. "They recruited me as a defensive lineman," said Alan.

While the lineman was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the Mid-Suburban League East, he could also play linebacker, or the offensive line or possibly fullback at the next level. "(Matt) Limegrover is the one who receruited me mostly and he's the offensive coordinator."

Baxter had 73 tackles, 13 tackles for losses and 5 sacks for the Bison this season. He had a key sack on fourth down that helped preserve a win over Hersey this season. Baxter also stripped the ball and recovered the fumble in the fourth quarter in a 24-7 win over Hoffman Estates.

Alan is an excellent student, who has been named to the honor roll at Buffalo Grove. He has also participated on the wrestling team and threw shot put on the track and field team.

In his senior campaign at Buffalo Grove, Baxter had received scholarship offers from Eastern Illinois, Northern Illinois, and the Air Force Academy. He was also starting to receive other interest. "I was talking to other schools in the MAC and the University of Illinois," Baxter said.
